EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY

WHAT IS EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY?

Emotionally focused therapy was developed by psychologist, Susan Johnson, PhD. This therapy is based on attachment needs. As children, we are either securely attached, anxiously attached or avoidantly attached to our parents.  Many adults struggle with uncomfortable feelings in their relationships  with close family members or friends.  They may feel unseen and alone. They may feel rejected and unloved. They may feel shame that something is wrong with them. They may feel afraid and trapped. They may be unforgiving or pretend that hurts don’t exist or will simply go away.

Some people try to manage their feelings by denying them or numbing yourself out. But the truth of the matter is that the best way to manage feelings is to feel them, understand them and listen to what they are telling you.

Emotionally focused therapy can help you make sense of yourself so you can move forward to a happier more fulfilling life.
